Prof. Roberto Setola, Dr. Luca Faramondi, and PhD candidate Gabriele Peluzzi participated in the 19th CIMIC Units Commanders’ Conference (CIMIC 2026), contributing to discussions on the role of emerging technologies in supporting Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities.

The second day of the conference focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence and Civil Environment Understanding. Participants explored how AI-enabled tools can support CIMIC analysis by facilitating the organisation, correlation, and interpretation of information related to the civil environment. These capabilities can enhance situational awareness, resilience assessment, and decision-support processes in complex operational contexts.

A key message emerging from the discussions was that, while advanced technologies can significantly accelerate analysis and improve the understanding of complex civil dynamics, they should complement rather than replace human judgement, professional expertise, and contextual awareness.

The conference also featured a dedicated session for Command Senior Enlisted Leaders and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs), highlighting their essential contribution to the evolution of CIMIC capabilities, education, analytical processes, and operational readiness.
